We are Hanna and Jonas, two ecologists cycling from Germany to Singapore with the aim to find out more about the human-nature relationship. We have been working in the field of nature conservation for 10 years now, and at the end of April 2022, we started a journalistic bicycle trip to document the cost of biodiversity loss - and the people who are working for solutions and a future worth living. How do they view their surroundings? What do they do? What motivates them and what are their hopes?
That means we are spending the next 1,5 years on our bikes, cycling about 20.000 km through 20 countries. Along our Eurasian route, we are meeting fellow nature lovers, exchange experiences, learn and share the cost of biodiversity loss and the potentials of community empowerment for biodiversity protection. We named this journey Biking4Biodiversity and are documenting it on our website (https://biking4biodiversity.org) as well as on Facebook and Instagram.
And while providing context and telling personal stories, we also aim to wake up the spirit of adventure in people, showing them that travelling to some of the most remote corners of the world can be fun and inspiring, even on two wheels.
When it comes to conservation, to what extent should we intervene or not in our attempts to help nature? Here we learn from the experiences of the Czech Šumava National Park.
