We are currently looking for new volunteers to take on the following roles:

Blog Editor:

Conservation Optimism is looking for creative, detail-oriented editors to join our Blog Team. You and our other Blog Editors (currently three) will work with writers to ensure their submissions align with our guidelines, then set them up to publish and promote their work. Join our international community of optimists to inspire positive action for the planet through the power of stories!

Time Commitment: 3 – 5 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with ConservationNOW members about their blogs
  • Send new ConservationNOW members the blog guidelines
  • Send reminders to ensure that new members send their blogs in a timely manner
  • Identify potential for re-blog of content published on other platforms 
  • Liaise with external bloggers 
  • Edit and upload the blogs on the website

Ideal Qualities:

  • Familiar with topics of conservation science and advocacy
  • Strong editing and writing skills
  • Flexibility to work with a team spread across multiple time zones

Blog Coordinator:

Conservation Optimism is looking for an organized, motivated person to help manage our Blog Team. As the volunteer Blog Coordinator, you will engage prospective writers, connect them with Blog Editors, and ensure that the publishing process goes smoothly. Join our international community of optimists to inspire positive action for the planet through the power of stories!

Time Commitment: 3 – 5 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the Blog Team’s primary point of contact via our joint email account (blogs@conservationoptimism.org), the CO Slack Channel, and periodic meetings
  • Communicate with writers, ConservationNOW members, and other sources to request new content that aligns with our Blog Guidelines
    Streamline the Blog Team’s workflow by assigning new blogs to Editors and tracking the process on our AirTable spreadsheet
  • Edit blogs as necessary (or when a story makes you feel particularly inspired!)

Ideal Qualities:

  • Familiar with topics of conservation science and advocacy
  • Strong digital organization, team management, and writing skills
  • Flexibility to work with a team spread across multiple time zones

Database Curator:

Are you interested in helping us design and curate a database of optimistic conservation news stories? We are looking for a Database Curator to join our Database Team (currently three curators) and help us create an online, open-source, community-built repository of news stories. We want to make finding positive environmental stories as easy as possible!

Time commitment: 3 – 5 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Help to design the database
  • Search stories on news channels
  • Collect stories shared by our community on Twitter and Instagram

Ideal Qualities:

  • Strong attention to details
  • Good organizational skills
  • Experience in designing and working with databases is desirable but not necessary
  • Flexibility to work with a team spread across multiple time zones

TikTok Curator:

Are you interested in helping us reach new audiences and spread our ethos to a new platform? Do you have a good understanding of TikTok and know how to engage people on that platform? We are looking for a TikTok Curator to join our Social Media Team (currently two team members) and help us foster a Conservation Optimism community there. You will start working with our Social Media Team on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to understand our style and ethos and would then move on to curating our new TikTok channel.

Time commitment: 3 – 5 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Curate our upcoming TikTok channel
  • Keep in touch with our different teams to know what’s going on and what would make good TikTok content

Ideal Qualities:

  • Strong attention to details
  • Good organizational skills
  • Creative
  • Experience in social media community building
  • Experience in producing TikTok videos

Conservation Optimism has a vibrant team of over 20 volunteers from around the globe. By joining our team you will get the opportunity to:
