The Marine Stewardship Council is an international non-profit organisation. Our vision is of the world’s oceans teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations. Our mission is to use our ecolabel and fishery certification program to contribute to the health of the world’s oceans by recognising and rewarding sustainable fishing practices, influencing the choices people make when buying seafood and working with our partners to transform the seafood market to a sustainable basis.
Around the globe, MSC certified fisheries are working hard to improve the sustainability of their practices, from funding new research in the Arctic (in partnership with scientists from ZSL) to protecting seabirds in the Southern Ocean. We’re lucky to hear these inspiring stories of #conservationoptimism and we want to share them with the world. That’s why we are so excited about the Conservation Optimism movement. Marine conservation is challenging, but with collaboration, enthusiasm and a healthy dose of pragmatic optimism, positive change can and will happen.
NGOs, scientists, retailers, consumers, fisheries and industry are all part of the collective effort to make sure our oceans are fished sustainably. By working together, we can ensure future generations are able to enjoy seafood and oceans full of life, forever.
